About The Song
Shadows is a song about a relationship that exists openly between two people but remains hidden from the rest of the world.
The feelings are real. The connection is real. The affection is real. Yet despite that, something continues to stand in the way of complete openness. The relationship is allowed to exist in private, but rarely in public.
Throughout the song, the narrator struggles to understand why. The two walk side by side, share moments together and clearly care for one another, yet hesitation always seems to appear whenever the relationship moves beyond the safety of the two people involved.
At its core, the song is not about the absence of love. It is about the absence of acknowledgement.
The recurring images of shadows, whispers and hidden emotions reflect the frustration of feeling chosen in private but uncertain in public. The narrator is not asking for perfection. He is asking for honesty, courage and the willingness to stop hiding something that already exists.
More than anything, Shadows is a song about visibility. About the difference between being loved and being openly claimed. About the hope that fear can eventually give way to trust and that a relationship can finally step out of the shadows and into the light.
Om Låten
Shadows handlar om en relation som existerar öppet mellan två människor men samtidigt förblir dold för omvärlden.
Känslorna är verkliga. Närheten är verklig. Kärleken är verklig. Trots det finns det något som hela tiden står i vägen för full öppenhet. Relationen får existera privat, men sällan offentligt.
Genom hela låten försöker berättaren förstå varför. De går sida vid sida, delar stunder tillsammans och bryr sig uppenbart om varandra, men tvekan uppstår så fort relationen närmar sig världen utanför de två personerna.
I grunden handlar låten inte om bristen på kärlek.
Den handlar om bristen på erkännande.
De återkommande bilderna av skuggor, viskningar och dolda känslor speglar frustrationen i att känna sig vald bakom stängda dörrar men osäker i offentligheten. Berättaren efterfrågar inte perfektion. Han efterfrågar ärlighet, mod och viljan att sluta gömma något som redan finns.
Mer än någonting annat handlar Shadows om synlighet. Om skillnaden mellan att vara älskad och att bli erkänd. Om hoppet att rädsla så småningom ska ge vika för tillit och att relationen till slut ska få kliva ut ur skuggorna och in i ljuset.
